Dallas Mavericks
First up on the list, we have to consider the Mavericks as a team who should try to acquire Marcus Smart from the Celtics. They have been looking to make a splash in the back-court over the last couple of years. This may not be the “splash” that they were looking for originally, but he would still be a quality addition.
Alongside Luka Doncic, Smart would bring elite on-ball defense and the ability to spot up for three-point looks. He isn’t going to be a huge scoring option for Dallas, but they would not need him to be.
Smart is exactly the kind of piece that the Mavericks need to take the next step. A late first-round pick would be excellent value for Dallas. He could very well be the defensive genius that helps the franchise take the next step in a very talented Western Conference playoff picture.
While he has some issues with consistency on the offensive end of the court, the Mavericks have to find more defense. They wouldn’t have to look any further than Smart. He would be able to come in and immediately take over the role of defending the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer.
This seems like a match made in heaven for the Mavericks and Smart would love his role in Dallas if a trade happened.
