Does this trade make sense for the Miami Heat?

As long as they are not giving up Butler or Adebayo, this trade for Zach LaVine makes complete sense for the Heat. Again, it seems highly unlikely that the Bulls would even consider giving up Zach LaVine in the offseason given how well he has played for them over the years, but if the Heat can get away with giving up two lesser assets for an All-Star player, they should absolutely pull the trigger.

This offseason is going to be interesting for Miami for a handful of reasons, but the biggest reason is the fact that they can open up enough cap space to bring in a max-contract-level player. With Oladipo set to be an unrestricted free agent and likely out a vast majority of next year due to a quad injury and the possibility of both Dragic and Iguodala becoming free agents, Miami can free up close to $30M in cap space if they wanted to, which is why a trade or free agent signing is in order for them.

They could look at guys like Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard in free agency, but Zach LaVine definitely makes sense for the Heat given their play style and need for someone they can rely on to score every possession down the court.

Bam Adebayo is a great facilitator from the center position and Jimmy Butler does a little bit of everything for the Heat, but they have been missing that extra spark on offense for years now. Victor Oladipo was supposed to be that guy for them this year, but after four games, he went down with an injury that ended his season.

Miami is going to have to make a big move in the offseason in order to have a chance of getting back to the NBA Finals and by trading for Zach LaVine, they would be putting themselves in a position to contend with the likes of the 76ers, Nets and Bucks in the Eastern Conference.
