Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?

Myles Turner would be a huge addition for Charlotte and this trade would fix their frontcourt problem, but they would be getting rid of arguably their most important player. He may not have led them in points, rebounds or assists this year, but Gordon Hayward was the leader of this young Hornets team and was the player they had been missing all of these years.

Terry Rozier, LaMelo Ball, P.J. Washington and Devonte’ Graham are all great players in their own rights, but Gordon Hayward brings stability and experience to this young team, something Myles Turner cannot bring.

He would no doubt make them a better defensive team given his shot-blocking abilities, but the Hornets’ offense would get much weaker with the addition of Turner and they would not be able to spread the court as much as they do with shooters.

If they could make a trade for Myles Turner in the offseason without giving up Gordon Hayward, the Hornets would likely pull the trigger to get that deal done, but it seems highly likely that the only player Indiana would want in return is Gordon Hayward.

As a result, this is a trade proposal that Charlotte should stay away from, even if they do get the help they need in their frontcourt and an extra shooter on the wing in Jeremy Lamb. There just is not enough value in this trade for the Hornets to want to give up on Gordon Hayward after just one season, a season in which they got better in every aspect of the game.
