Indiana Pacers Receive: F Gordon Hayward

Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Myles Turner, G/F Jeremy Lamb

Indiana has been interested in Gordon Hayward since last offseason when they were trying to sign him along with the Hornets, who ultimately got a deal done for the veteran wing. Charlotte has been interested in Myles Turner since the start of this past season, including at the trade deadline, but no deals were ever close to getting done for him.

It seems like a long-shot, but both teams could potentially look to help eachother out, the only question is if this is the right move for both teams. Hayward had a really solid year with the Hornets, playing in 44 games and averaging 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and shooting 41.5% from three-point range.

After suffering that nasty looking ankle/leg injury in the first game of the 2017-18 season, many did not believe that Gordon Hayward would ever be the All-Star talent that he once was, but he has not put together back-to-back great seasons and is still one of the better forwards in the entire league.

Hayward’s three-point shooting percentage this year was the highest of his career since the 2012-13 season and with him being the leader of this Hornets team right now, he is in a great spot to continue finding success in his career.

As for Myles Turner, he too had his season cut short due to injuries, but he has solidified himself as being one of the premier interior defenders in this league. Not only did he lead the league in blocks per game this season, but Turner likely would have been a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year if he had stayed healthy.

He is exactly the kind of center the Hornets need in their rotation, which is why they will be looking to get a deal doen for him in the offseason. Will they and should they consider trading Gordon Hayward for him though? Let’s take a look at this trade from both team’s perspective to see if this deal really makes sense for both of them.
