Work out a buyout agreement similar to Blake Griffin’s with the Pistons
If the Cavaliers want to get rid of Kevin Love in the offseason, a buyout agreement is the most plausible way to get him off of the team, but depending on the agreement, they could still be tied down to paying him in full.
This is why they really need to work out a contract buyout like the situation that happened between Blake Griffin and the Pistons earlier this year. Griffin wanted out of Detroit, but they did not want to pay him $75M over the course of the next two seasons.

As a result, the Pistons and Griffin agreed to have him give back $13.3M in his buyout agreement, resulting in the organization taking a large amount of money from Griffin off of their payroll and allowing the former All-Star to sign with the Brooklyn Nets on a one-year minimum deal.
Detroit still has Griffin on their books for $32.45M this season and $29.76M next season as “dead cap,” but he is off their roster and they can begin finding ways to move on with the future of their team.
Cleveland needs to put themselves in a similar position to Detroit and look at this situation with Kevin Love as if they need him to forfeit some of his money. The only problem though is that Griffin wanted out of Detroit and Love has no problem playing in Cleveland moving forward.
This could cause some problems for the Cavaliers, especially if Love does not want to forfeit any of his $60.2M remaining on his contract to be bought out. Again, this is the best case scenario for the Cavs, but if Love is not willing to forfeit any of his guaranteed money, then Cleveland will be stuck with one option left.
