The sun has set on yet another Cleveland Cavaliers’ season and yet nothing has changed. LeBron James is not walking back through the doors to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and Kyrie Irving is not coming back either, but the one key guy that still remains from their 2016 title run is Kevin Love.

Well, at least for now Kevin Love still remains with the Cavaliers. When LeBron James and Kyrie Irving both left the Cavaliers, Love was left as the “odd-man-in” with the Cavs and as a result, they rewarded him for helping deliver a title to the city of Cleveland with a four-year, $120M contract-extension prior to the start of the 2019-20 season. He will be a name to watch in NBA trade rumors, as a result.

Now, the Cavaliers find themselves stuck because they want to move forward as an organization and try to start winning games, but they cannot bring in much talent with Kevin Love eating up $30M/year on their books. Sorry Cavs, you probably should have thought about this coming when you decided to sign a 30-year-old veteran big man to a huge contract!

Now, at 32-years-old and on the back-half of his career, Kevin Love still has two years and $60M left on his contract that the Cavaliers need to find a way to get rid of if they are to be successful. Love proved this year that he is not the contributor that he once was, nor is he an All-Star level talent anymore, which is why Cleveland needs to move on from him.

Finding ways to move $60M off of their payroll will not be easy for the Cavaliers and once again, they put themselves in this tough situation financially, but there are some options on how the Cavs can deal with Kevin Love in the offseason. Let’s take a look at their three biggest options in terms of their organization’s future and Kevin Love’s future.
