Daniel Theis

The Bucks have gotten excellent production this season from Bobby Portis off their bench. How he was not a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year award is anyone’s guess, as he deserved some consideration.

Portis has a $3.8 million player option for 2021-22 and it would be surprising if he accepted that and didn’t look to cash in. If he looks for a pay raise and prices himself out of Milwaukee, the Bucks could look at Daniel Theis as a replacement.

Theis has some good experience from his years with the Boston Celtics and would bring a similar skill set to Milwaukee to help replace Portis should he depart. While he doesn’t offer the same punch offensively, Theis provides a little more defensively.

The Chicago Bulls did play Daniel Theis at the four spot next to Nikola Vucevic, but that won’t be necessary with Thaddeus Young and Patrick Williams healthy. Theis could slot in at the backup five spot but he also could find more value in joining a contender like the Bucks instead.
