Why this trade would make sense for the Charlotte Hornets
While the Charlotte Hornets were able to land Gordon Hayward in NBA free agency last offseason, it’s important they are prioritizing adding long-term pieces around LaMelo Ball. He showed he’s the real deal in his rookie campaign and building around him will pay off.
The contributions that Terry Rozier provided the Hornets should be understated. He was able to hit big shots in crucial moments throughout the season while being a stable source of offense throughout an otherwise turbulent season riddled with injuries. However, he’s entering the final year of his contract while Herro is a team-controlled asset, so Rozier’s trade value is diminished as a result.
The Hornets still have the option of re-signing Devonte’ Graham in restricted free agency to maintain their guard depth in addition to LaMelo Ball and Tyler Herro. Meanwhile, KZ Okpala is also an intriguing piece in this particular trade scenario that would add complementary talent in the frontcourt.

While Tyler Herro didn’t have a breakout season, he still posted averages of 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for the Miami Heat at 21-years-old. There’s plenty of improvement that can be made and while he was underwhelming in the season’s final stages, he still had a solid campaign. He would slot in nicely in the Hornets’ offense.
