Why The Trade Benefits The Rockets
The Rockets have already made many significant moves and are on their way to rebuilding their roster from the ground up. Stephen Silas has his hands full with this roster, but it is all on the front office to put players on the floor. Eric Gordon being sent away seems like a foregone conclusion this offseason.
Westbrook and Harden were the superstars to begin the rebuild while Tucker and Gordon are the veterans to continue it. Houston has a chance of the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, which day could use on Cade Cunningham out of Oklahoma State. He would give them their next franchise player and then it would be about putting the right pieces around him.
Gordon is a part of their past and not their future. He still has some value and Houston could look to take advantage of what is left.
It is unknown what the market is on Gordon but the Rockets should take what they can get. Anything is better than nothing at this point and it is not like Houston can get much worse. This is a chance to continue their rebuild and send away a player that is not a part of the future.
Goga Bitadze is capable of stretching the floor at the center position, as well as defending the rim, and is only in his second season. He has some potential and a change of scenery and more playing time could help him develop. Jeremy Lamb would not be a long-term piece of the puzzle, but he’s a quality player and would be a nice expiring contract as well.
