Montrezl Harrell – Los Angeles Lakers
At the trade deadline, Montrezl Harrell’s name surprisingly popped up in a lot of trade rumors, but nothing ever happened. One of the teams that reportedly had a ton of interest in Harrell was the Charlotte Hornets.
Depending on what happens with the Lakers in the postseason and depending on what they do roster wise with all of their front-court options, Harrell could look to opt out of his $9.72 million player option for next season and sign elsewhere.
If he does, then the Hornets will absolutely be a team to watch in terms of signing the reigning Sixth Man of the Year because they need a bruiser down low. P.J. Washington has shown the ability to be a big-time rebounder and scorer, but Harrell could take care of most of the rebounding and be that hard-nosed defender they need in the paint.
Last offseason, the Hornets were highly interested in signing Harrell and they made him a better offer than the Lakers did, but Harrell decided to sign with the Lakers instead to try and chase a title. Now, Harrell could go back to free agency and receive close to the same offer from Charlotte, so that is definitely an intriguing possibility for him to consider.
The Hornets need a bruiser down low and that is exactly the kind of player Harrell is, which is why this fit makes sense for both Harrell and Charlotte.
