He is considered a point guard, but really is a positionless basketball player
Standing 6’8” and being a threat to score from literally anywhere on the court, Cade Cunningham really should not be considered a point guard. Because of how strong he is as a primary ball-handler and facilitator, Cunningham is considered a point guard, but overall, he could logistically play the 1-3 positions in the NBA.
The 19-year-old guard is a really strong perimeter shooter, making him a viable option to put on the wing in some NBA rotations and with his ability to facilitate, he could easily take advantage of smaller guards in the league as a team’s franchise point guard.
Any team that drafts Cunningham will be drafting him with the intention of making him their franchise point guard, but that does not mean teams cannot experiment with him and surround him with other guards on the court.

Shooting is an emphasis in the NBA today and putting a ton of perimeter threats out there on the court with Cunningham not only gives a team a great chance to be one of the league’s best perimeter threats, but they also would not have to worry about being undersized because of Cunningham’s versatility and ability to play numerous positions.
At just 19-years-old and having the ability to impact the game in many different ways, Cade Cunningham is one of the top NBA-ready prospects in the 2021 NBA Draft class, which is why he should be the undisputed #1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
