Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Coby White

Chicago Bulls Receive: F Cam Reddish, MIA 2021 2nd Round Pick (via ATL), POR 2023 2nd Round Pick (via ATL)

Coby White was drafted 7th overall in 2019 and Cam Reddish was selected 10th overall in 2019. Both young players have been in and out of the starting rotations for their teams since being drafted, but both guys have sure made impacts when they have been on the court.

The Bulls guard started the season in the starting rotation, but was moved to the bench in favor of Tomas Satoransky. Whether he has started a game or come off the bench, Coby White has still been very effective and in 49 appearances this season, he has averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and has shot 34.4% from three-point range.

Cam Reddish also started the season mainly in the starting rotation for the Hawks, but injuries have kept him out of the lineup. Reddish has not played since late-February due to an Achilles injury, which has definitely lessened his overall value, but in 26 games this season, Reddish has been effective, averaging 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and shooting 36.5% from the floor.

It seems hard to believe that both the Bulls and Hawks would be willing to give up on both of their young players, especially after just two seasons, but the Bulls could definitely use a young wing who can knock down shots and the Hawks really need another reliable backcourt player.

The Hawks just traded Rajon Rondo for Lou Williams at the trade deadline, but Williams is going to be a free agent at the end of the season and who knows when/if Kris Dunn is ever going to play for the Hawks. Getting a reliable, young talent like Coby White to play behind Trae Young could definitely be beneficial and give the Hawks exactly what they need to potentially grow into a force in the Eastern Conference.

As for the Bulls, Cam Reddish, assuming he can fix his shot, gives the Bulls exactly what they need in a knock-down, perimeter threat on the wing. Standing 6’8”, Cam Reddish has the size to hit a jump shot over virtually any wing in this league and given his length, he has the tools to be a very versatile and potentially an elite-level defender.

Now, let’s take a look at both the Hawks and Bulls as a whole and truly see if this trade is not only feasible for both of them, but if it makes sense for the direction both franchises are trending towards.
