No. 1 – Andre Drummond – Los Angeles Lakers
While they needed to make a move with both Anthony Davis and LeBron James being out, going out and signing Andre Drummond is impactful for the Lakers for a couple of reasons. In the offseason, they went out and signed both Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol, letting JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard go.
The reason this was a bad move by the Lakers is because both Howard and McGee were bruisers in the paint and did everything they could to not only make the most of their minutes, but to contest and rebound every single shot that went up against them. Harrell and Gasol do not have that same “grit” that those two guys last year had and as a result, the Lakers have taken a hit rebounding and their frontcourt has been a mess.
Bringing in Andre Drummond immediately will fix this mess of a frontcourt they have, especially with Marc Gasol being close to non-existent at times this year. Over the course of his career, Drummond has averaged 14.6 points and 13.8 rebounds, making him one of the best rebounding big men in the league over the last decade or so.
Andre Drummond led the league in rebounding four different times from the 2015-16 season to the 2019-20 season and has been one of the league’s best when it comes to recording double-doubles. He is going to continue to rack up double-doubles with the Lakers, taking a ton of pressure off of both Davis and LeBron to make all of the plays for this team.
The Lakers could not have signed a better player in the buyout market to fill the role they needed in their frontcourt and as a result, they will be right in the thick of things come playoff time and be the team to beat in the Western Conference once again.
