Gorgui Dieng, Memphis Grizzlies, NBA Trade Rumors

No. 3 – Gorgui Dieng – San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs signing Gorgui Dieng is flying under-the-radar and he is not getting the credit he deserves. Dieng is still a really solid center in the league and this year with the Grizzlies, he averaged 7.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and shot 51.9% from the floor in about 16 minutes per game!

The one weakness of the San Antonio Spurs is their frontcourt and while Jakob Poeltl has played well as the team’s starting center, they have not had another reliable frontcourt option emerge. Adding Gorgui Dieng to the mix not only gives them a reliable backup center, but a veteran player who knows what it takes to win games.

The Spurs are a really young team and outside of DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay, they do not have much experience when it comes to the playoffs. Adding a guy like Gorgui Dieng gives them yet another veteran leader on and off-the-court that can really make a difference for a young team like the Spurs.

Not to mention, he can help aid in the growth of Jakob Poeltl as the team’s main center moving forward. Dieng has always been a really strong rebounder and his ability to step out on the perimeter and knock down shots is often times overlooked as well.

Overall, this is a really strong signing by the San Antonio Spurs that not many people talked about. Dieng will definitely help contribute to the Spurs off-the-bench and could definitely be a difference-maker in their second-unit, giving them an extra jolt of energy rebounding the basketball and creating some second-chance opportunities.
