No. 4 – Blake Griffin – Brooklyn Nets
Blake Griffin reached a buyout agreement with the Detroit Pistons a couple of weeks before the trade deadline and eventually reached an agreement to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Already with James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets have the firepower to be legit championship contenders this season and now with the addition of Griffin, they get another strong piece to add to the puzzle.
After trading for James Harden earlier in the year, the Nets gave up a lot of their frontcourt depth and have been left with Jeff Green, DeAndre Jordan and Nicolas Claxton as their only viable frontcourt options to turn to.
Now, with Griffin in the mix, they have a former All-Star talent who can still be productive. Griffin has played in three games with the Nets so far and has averaged 9.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and has shot 64.3% from the floor, including 3-4 (75%) from three-point range.
The most impressive stat for Blake Griffin so far with the Nets though is the fact that he has dunked the ball three different times. Griffin was with the Pistons for about 2.5 years and did not dunk the basketball once.
Finally healthy and ready to make a difference, this was a great addition by the Brooklyn Nets for some much needed frontcourt depth. Not only does he fit in well because of their spread system, but Griffin definitely will still draw attention away from the Nets’ three star players in Harden, Irving and Durant.
This move to sign Griffin was not the only move by the Nets in the buyout market though as we will touch on LaMarcus Aldridge shortly.
