Rebounding

Now in his 9th season in the NBA, Andre Drummond is a center that a ton of people around the league have given up on for no reason. While he was putting up “dead stats” on some bad teams in Detroit over the years early on in his career, Drummond was still proving that he was one of the best rebounding centers in the entire NBA and led the league in rebounding in four different seasons.

In fact, Andre Drummond averaged 16.0 rebounds per game during the 2017-18 season with the Pistons, making him the first player to average 16 or more rebounds per game since Dennis Rodman averaged 16.1 rebounds per game during the 1996-97 season with the Chicago Bulls.

Over the course of his career, Andre Drummond has averaged 13.8 rebounds per game, which is exactly why he will have a major impact with the Los Angeles Lakers. After losing both JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard this past offseason, the Lakers lost two bruisers in the paint and two guys they could count on to be physical rebounders.

They tried to replicate this production with Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell, but neither guy has been the dominant rebounder they have needed to succeed, especially with Anthony Davis out due to a calf injury.

As a result, Drummond is set to join the Lakers and will immediately be their best rebounder, even when both LeBron James and Anthony Davis return. Not only will he be their best rebounder, but he will help elevate the Lakers into an even better rebounding team than they already are.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James lead the Lakers in rebounding with 8.4 rebounds and 7.9 rebounds per game respectively, which has helped propel them to being the 9th best rebounding team in the NBA with 45.1 team rebounds per game. Adding Drummond, who is averaging 13.5 rebounds per game this season (second-best in the league), will not only give them another high-level rebounder, but elevate them to being a Top-5 rebounding team in this league.

There is no reason why Andre Drummond cannot still be a double-double machine in this league and next to two superstar in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, he could be on-track to not only finish the season on a high-note, but earn himself another big contract in the offseason due to what he can do on the glass on both ends of the court.
