Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are in a position to clear some cap space in a deal such as this one. Ricky Rubio is in the second of a three-year deal where he is owed upwards of $17 million a year. This is not wise for the Timberwolves to have on their roster. A rebuilding team needs to send that contract away for whatever they can get.
Karl-Anthony Towns was the center of some rumors in the offseason because of some alleged disgruntled feelings. The Wolves even attempted to bring Russell, who is Towns’ close friend, over in hopes of building something in Minnesota. Despite Russell and Malik Beasley having strong years, the Wolves have been unable to put anything together.
They are looking like one of the biggest messes in the league right now. Rubio is owed a bit of money and this is something the team could give away. That is the benefit of this deal rather than the return.
