Why this trade makes sense for the Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are in “championship-mode” meaning that outside of their three superstar players, everybody on this roster is expendable and on “minimal” contracts on a year-by-year basis. With the Nets being the front-runners to win the championship this year, the best thing they can do for themselves is to leverage Spencer Dinwiddie’s contract and acquire two veteran role players that can provide even more depth.
Believe it or not, the Nets actually have a fair amount of depth on their roster, especially after signing Blake Griffin for some extra frontcourt help, but they are still not a very impressive defensive team.
Brooklyn currently ranks 25th in the league in defensive rating and with their focus being on the offensive-end of the court, it would make a ton of sense for them to trade Spencer Dinwiddie for Avery Bradley and Mo Harkless.

Both guys would likely not play much for the Nets, Bradley would probably see more time than Harkless, but they are two high-level perimeter defenders that are more than capable of holding their own. Bradley was pursued by numerous playoff caliber teams this past offseason before ultimately signing with the Heat.
Improving their overall depth and getting a future first-round pick for Spencer Dinwiddie is probably the best value the Nets can receive for him at the trade deadline, which is probably worth it in the grand scheme of things.
