Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
If the Celtics can pull off a trade for Clint Capela, then Danny Aigne deserves to win Executive of the Year. There is no chance that the Hawks will look to move Clint Capela at the trade deadline this year, which is why Boston will have to look elsewhere.
With their $28.5M trade exception, they could easily acquire a player like Capela, but the Hawks are not interested in making big moves right now. As a result, the Celtics should turn their attention to some of the other big names they have been targeting like Harrison Barnes and Nikola Vucevic.
Both of these guys could be available for the right price and with plenty of young players and draft assets to offer up, Boston could potentially be gearing up to make a huge move at the trade deadline this year.
Going back to the Capela hypothetical trade scenario, Boston would be giving up both Tristan Thompson and Aaron Nesmith, both of which should be involved in a trade scenario to bring in an All-Star caliber frontcourt player.

Outside of Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, everyone on this Celtics’ roster is expendable and could be moved at the NBA trade deadline. Boston has come up short of their goal of reaching the NBA Finals over the years and with their championship window closing, any and every asset on their team could be leveraged to improve their championship chances.
Clint Capela should absolutely be a player the Celtics should inquire about, but at the end of the day, they have close to a 0% chance of convincing the Hawks to trade him.
