John Collins – Atlanta Hawks
This past offseason, John Collins declined to agree to a $90M contract extension with the Hawks, leading to a bunch of rumors that he may be unsettled in Atlanta. With plenty of NBA trade rumors circulating around his future and the Hawks being an up-and-down team this season, it is a very real possibility that teams may pursue the young Hawks’ forward.
The Clippers should definitely be one of those teams that targets Collins at the trade deadline because of their lack of production in the frontcourt. Most of the time, the Clippers have either Marcus Morris Sr. or Kawhi Leonard play the power-forward position and fill out the rest of their rotation with PG13 and some perimeter shooters, but adding Collins to this team really opens things up offensively.
They could roll out a lineup of Patrick Beverley, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, John Collins and Serge Ibaka with plenty of perimeter-oriented threats and scoring threats coming off the bench, making the Clippers’ second-unit arguably the best in the league.

Last season, John Collins emerged as one of the better, more versatile power-forwards in the NBA, eclipsing 20+ points per game and this season, he is continuing to get better, even with the emergence of all the weapons on this year’s Hawks roster. With him being as dynamic as he is at such a young age, he could make a huge impact for the Clippers and potentially be a player they look to keep long-term.
John Collins is in the final year of his rookie contract this season and is owed just $4.1M, making things very easy on the Clippers financially to potentially add him to their roster. It would be a long-shot to convince the Hawks to trade John Collins, but the addition of him would absolutely make the Clippers a tough team to beat late in the year.
