Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Houston Rockets

After trading away both Russell Westbrook and James Harden, it seemed like the Houston Rockets were heading for a complete rebuild of their organization, but that is not the case. John Wall has been playing great and so far, he does not seem to have any limitations to what he can do after suffering some major injuries over the years.

The same can be said for DeMarcus Cousins, who does not look as dominant as his old self, but is still a high-impact player who is contributing at a high level. Christian Wood looks like one of the best signings of this past offseason and when he returns from his ankle injury, will be very much in the conversation for Most Improved Player.

There is a lot to like about this team if you are a Rockets fan and while getting rid of Victor Oladipo may not be ideal, especially since this team has a small chance to make the playoffs this year without Harden, it may be the right move to make since he is in the final year of his contract.

It is starting to seem more and more likely that Oladipo is going to test free agency after this year and see what he is worth on the open market. This year, he has looked great and at times, looked like the best player on this Rockets team, which will make things even harder for Houston to try and re-sign him at the end of the year.

Trading him now while his value is high and you can get the most out of him is worthwhile for the Rockets since they will have to go through some type of a small rebuild. This team is currently looking for answers on where to go moving forward and with not much to work with in terms of young talent, it would be beneficial for them to gain as many draft picks as they can now.

While preparing to build their team of the future, the Rockets could continue to compete and win games, especially with key role players like Patrick Beverley and Marcus Morris Sr. Both of these guys can contribute in the starting rotation or off-the-bench, giving the Rockets plenty of depth all-around the court.

Oladipo and Tucker definitely have high values on the trade market right now and they could probably get better trades for either of them, but this trade does supply the Rockets with the means to win now and in the future, which is why it is not totally a terrible offer.

Even with Victor Oladipo, the Rockets could still miss the playoffs this season because of how crowded the Western Conference is, which is why they should trade him. Maybe the Clippers offer is not the best one they can get for the former All-Star guard, but it is definitely an intriguing offer at the least.
