Los Angeles Clippers Receive: G Victor Oladipo, F P.J. Tucker
Houston Rockets Receive: G Patrick Beverley, F Marcus Morris Sr, G/F Terance Mann, HOU 2022 2nd Round Pick, ATL 2022 2nd Round Pick (via HOU), POR 2023 2nd Round Pick (via HOU), LAC 2027 1st Round Pick
It would take a lot for the Clippers to get a player like Victor Oladipo, especially since they do not have many valuable draft picks to trade away. Los Angeles has just one first-round pick in 2027, which is included in this trade package, and they have a bunch of scattered second-round picks as well.
This scenario seems like it leans in the favor of the Clippers, especially since they would be giving up some veteran players and second-round picks for a guy like Victor Oladipo who was an All-Star not too long ago. For the Rockets though, all three guys they would be getting can help contribute now and stockpiling draft picks, regardless of round, could be beneficial.
Patrick Beverley has never really been known as a reliable offensive player over the years, but he is currently shooting 43.6% from three-point range and is a great on-ball defender. Beverley started his NBA journey in Houston and for five seasons, was a very reliable point guard for them. He could be a great fit for the Rockets next to veteran guard John Wall.
Marcus Morris Sr. and Terance Mann are two role players who could definitely have an impact in Houston. The Rockets have a lot of wing players on their roster already, but this team does lack consistency. Morris has always been a consistent forward and is currently the third leading scorer on the Clippers.
Getting Victor Oladipo to pair with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George would be a huge statement by the Clippers, but getting P.J. Tucker is also a major get for this team. Giving up Marcus Morris Sr. would not be ideal for the Clippers, especially because of what he can do for them on both ends of the court, but getting P.J.Tucker definitely eases a lot of their concerns.
Tucker is a “do-it-all” kind of player who can pass, defender, shoot corner threes, and rebound. He is virtually a “positionless” player as well, making him fit into any rotation the Clippers would want him in.
If the Rockets are willing to take on a bunch of second-round picks, then the Clippers may be in luck for a trade like this, but ultimately, they would probably have to give up a lot more in terms of value like Ivica Zubac, Lou Williams or maybe even two or three more second-round picks. With this being said, while this may not seem like the best trade package, let’s take a look at how each team would benefit from making this deal.
