Dallas Mavericks Need A Reliable No. 3 Scorer
At the end of the day, the biggest problem for the Dallas Mavericks this year is that they do not have a reliable third scoring option. Luka Doncic is going to continue being an MVP candidate and at full strength, Kristaps Porzingis can average 20 points and 10 rebounds on any given night, but they are missing that third reliable option.
Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging 17.2 points per game this season and is one of their only perimeter threats, but he is nothing more than a catch-and-shoot role player. He does not have the capability to be a high-level three-point threat, which is why adding LaMarcus Aldridge gives this team what it needs most.
As mentioned before, Aldridge has not averaged below double-figure scoring for a season since his rookie year in 2006 and he will not break that streak this year. He is currently averaging 14.1 points per game this season, which is lower than usual, but his minutes have been cut down with San Antonio.
Aldridge is more than capable of playing 30+ minutes per game still and can be that reliable third scoring option this team would need him to be alongside Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. There may not be a better big man in the NBA with his back to the basket than LaMarcus Aldridge and with two young, high-level stars next to him, he could really blend well with this team.
The only issues with acquiring Aldridge would be freeing up nearly $20M in cap space, but if the Mavericks truly are all-in on making the most of this season, he may be one of the best low-risk, high-reward players that could become available in trade talks.
