Why This Trade Makes Sense For The New Orleans Pelicans

Over the last few weeks, the New Orleans Pelicans have completely turned things around and are starting to click as a team. They have won six of their last nine games and are very much in the hunt to make the playoffs this season in a loaded Western Conference.

While they have been one of the better defensive teams in the NBA at times, the Pelicans offense, particularly their three-point shooting, has struggled all year long. We know Redick can be a great three-point shooter, but the Pelicans do not have time to wait like the Lakers, which is why they need to make a move now to help them win games now.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is currently shooting 44.4% from three-point range and could be an excellent fit in the corner with guys like Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram running things for the Pels. Not to mention, New Orleans also has Eric Bledsoe, Lonzo Ball and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, three guys who have been getting better from three-point range as the season has progressed.

The main reason why this trade makes sense for the Pelicans is because they need immediate offensive production. They have some solid young players who are continuing to get better as the season goes on, but down the stretch, they are going to need experienced players who can step up and hit some big shots.

Not only is KCP a championship caliber guard, but he knows what it takes to win games late in the season, which is why he would be a great fit for this younger Pelicans team. Trading a veteran in Redick for a younger sharpshooter who can help them immediately would definitely be a win for New Orleans.
