Why This Trade Would Benefit The New Orleans Pelicans
Just like this trade benefits a win-now team, it does the same for a rebuilding team like the Pelicans. They have plenty of veteran assets that they could part ways with at the NBA trade deadline. This deal does it all in one while adding some pieces that could be apart of the future.
Walker has played in just 10 games this season. He is averaging 15 points per game for Boston. Walker is 30-years old and in the second year of a four-year deal he signed with the Celtics. He is owed a ton of money over the next three years, including this one.
New Orleans would be able to flip Kemba Walker in another deal or make him their starting point guard. Carsen Edwards and Robert Williams III are intriguing pieces. The two are combining for 11.7 points in 28 games played this season.
In Boston, there is not a ton of opportunity right now and that could change in New Orleans. Both Carsen Edwards and Robert Williams III would have more of a chance to grow and get some steady playing time for a team like the Pelicans.
This is a dump for the Pelicans. Kemba Walker’s contract is large but the team would have a plan for him before the deal is made. If they want to continue to rebuild, this is a move that could point them in the right direction.
