Why This Trade Would Benefit The Boston Celtics
This trade might be centered around Lonzo Ball but there are other pieces as well that would benefit Boston, maybe more. We are talking about Eric Bledsoe and JJ Redick. This trade does not feature any help down low but it gives the Celtics some help on the perimeter in areas they have been lacking.
JJ Redick has played in 21 games for the Pelicans off the bench. He is still an elite three-point shooter. He would join Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who are both shooting over 41% from three-point territory. Eric Bledsoe is a veteran point guard who does not need the ball in his hands.
This would give the Celtics a secondary option at the point guard position and one focused on setting up his teammates. Lonzo Ball is a player with a high ceiling but has been dealt an interesting hand during his time in the NBA.
There was no chance of Lonzo Ball becoming successful in the Lakers. He has improved during his time in New Orleans and could take that next step under a coach like Brad Stevens.
This trade fits well for a win-now team like the Celtics. They would be able to plug up some holes that they currently have. This could lead to some more consistency on the floor immediately.
