Do The Bucks Actually Have A Backup Point Guard?
Jrue Holiday has taken the role of the primary ball-handler for the Bucks this season and can be deemed their “point guard,” but outside of him, this team does not really have another floor general or point guard.
They signed D.J. Augustin in the offseason but he has seen very limited time this year and third year guard Donte DiVincenzo is really not much of a point guard. When Holiday is out of the game, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton become this team’s primary ball-handlers and the Bucks surround them with perimeter shooters, but this team does not really have another legit ball-handler they trust on their roster outside of Holiday.
This could be a yellow flag for the Bucks right now, especially since Jrue Holiday is currently day-to-day in health and safety protocols and could miss the next few games. It should be really interesting to see how the Bucks adjust to not having Holiday on the court and how other guys like D.J. Augustin, Bryn Forbes and Donte Divincenzo step up, but if things do not look good in Milwaukee’s backcourt without Holiday, it could reinforce the idea of trading for Lou Williams.
The Bucks do not really have a well constructed backcourt like most of the other teams in the league, which is another reason why Lou Williams would be a great fit with this team. He is a proven bench scorer and is the all-time leader in most career points by a player off the bench in NBA history.
The last 13-years, Lou Williams has scored in double-digit points off-the-bench over the course of a season and has improved as an overall passer the last few seasons with the Clippers. With him being in the final year of his contract and final few years of his career, acquiring Lou Williams would make a lot of sense for the Bucks in their hunt for a championship.
