Warriors Could Still Receive Some Young Talent & Draft Picks

The biggest question that the Warriors will have to ask themselves not only before the trade deadline, but heading into next offseason is: “how long?” How long does their core of Steph, Klay and Draymond have left playing together and how much longer will each player be in their primes?

We all hope and expect Klay Thompson to come back better than ever, but the guy has not played in a game since June 2019. The next time he steps out on the court in a Warriors uniform in an actual game will not be until September or October of 2021!

The only player who has proven he can still play at a high-level is Steph Curry, who is likely going to get a contract extension from the Warriors in the offseason. If the Warriors come to the conclusion that Draymond’s prime has come and gone and that he can no longer compete at the level they want him at, then they should try to trade him immediately while there is interest around the league in him.

Because of his versatility and competitiveness, there are definitely a handful of teams who would be interested in the 30-year old veteran. As a result, the Warriors could potentially trade him for one or two young talents and one or two draft picks that could help them win more championships in the future.

This team is always looking for ways to build their team for the future through the draft and they started doing so this past year when they drafted James Wiseman second-overall. With Minnesota’s first-round pick this year, which is expected to be a lottery-pick, the Warriors will continue to build their team around the draft, which is why trading Draymond could be a real possibility.
