Why the Golden State Warriors could consider trading Draymond Green

After a “down-year” last season due to all of the injuries this team suffered, there was a lot of hype heading into the offseason that the Golden State Warriors would once again be title contenders this season. Things quickly changed though when Klay Thompson suffered an Achilles injury before the NBA Draft.

Thompson is now out for the second-consecutive season, after suffering a torn ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals that kept him out the entire 2019-20 season, and the Warriors are still dealing with a lot of injuries. Steph and Draymond are both healthy, as are Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr, but rookie James Wiseman will be sidelined for a week or two with a sprained wrist, Kevon Looney has a sprained ankle and is expected to miss some time, Eric Paschall is dealing with some knee soreness and Marquese Chriss is out for the year with a broken leg.

Given all of their injuries this year and all of the new faces on this team, the Warriors are expected to be an up-and-down team all season long that could potentially sneak into the playoffs. Steph Curry is a legit MVP candidate this season and Golden State will go as far as he is able to carry them.

While he is a 3x All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year, Draymond Green is quite the opposite of Steph Curry and has really struggled offensively this year. Now, Green is a fantastic facilitator and defender and does all of the little things to help the Warriors win games, but his lack of production on offense has really hurt this team this year.

With his giant contract and the Warriors searching for answers moving forward, could it be in their best interest to trade Draymond Green before the NBA trade deadline this season? Let’s take a look at three reasons why the Warriors should consider trading Green at some point this year.
