George Hill – OKC Thunder
At 34-years old now, George Hill is nearing the end of his career, but he is still a high-impact, veteran player in this league. Just last year, he led the league in three-point shooting percentage with the Bucks, shooting about 46% from deep.
In Utah’s system that revolves around the three-point shot and getting open shots from deep, George Hill could really thrive and give this Jazz team the spark off-the-bench in the backcourt that they need. Hill can absolutely be a security blanket for this team in the second-unit and take a lot of pressure off of Mike Conley to be this team’s sole point guard.
Donovan Mitchell is a great all-around talent and one of the emerging superstars in this league, but he is not a true point guard like Mike Conley and when Conley is out of the game, this team does not really have a player they can count on to be a facilitator. Hill could thrive in this role for Utah, especially because he can also play alongside Conley off-the-ball.
Bringing in a veteran player like Hill definitely has a lot of perks, especially since he has played with guys like LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. It would be no exception playing with Donovan Mitchell. Hill knows what it takes to win games and be a part of championship caliber teams, which is why he could be an asset to the Utah Jazz, a team that does not have much playoff experience.
The only catch to trying to trade for a guy like George Hill is figuring out how to bring in his $19.6M contract. With him being owed $9.1M this season, the Jazz would be tight in terms of freeing up cap space and would likely have to move a guy like Royce O’Neal, which may be out of the question for the Jazz because of everything he can do for them besides score.
The veteran guard would definitely be a big-time pick-up for the Utah Jazz, but logistically, they may have to give up too much of their depth in order to acquire him.
