Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are off to a surprising start this season. This is because of the strong play of both Julius Randle and RJ Barrett to this point. They have some intriguing names that will be around for the future. There is no doubt that the Knicks will need a star player but it is all about how the front office wants to go about acquiring one.

Randle and Barrett are strong pieces but not a duo that will get the Knicks to the postseason consistently. Rookies Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin will be leaned on moving forward as well, along with Mitchell Robinson. These are all strong role players for the future.

To become a winning team, New York will have to land a proven superstar. DeRozan could be that name. He is still playing at a high level this season, averaging 20.9 points and 6.7 assists per game. The Knicks would have to sign him to another contract but it would be affordable given his age.

Some may not be high on the idea of trading Randle. This depends on whether the front office decides to extend him. At 26-years old, the Knicks have plenty of options on what to do with their big man. This is just one of many.
