Why This Trade Would Benefit The Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently third in the Eastern Conference at 9-5. The new regime seems to be working. Daryl Morey has come in and made the right moves in the front office while Doc Rivers is a proven head coach on the sidelines. Both expressed interest in keeping both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons but that might change if Damian Lillard is made available.
Simmons might not even be the problem in this deal. He is getting away with mediocre play early on because of the fact that Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris are picking up much of the slack. If this is something that the team expects to continue, then fine. If not, they could use a scoring threat at the top of the offense and Lillard is one of the best in the league.
The issue here might be Maxey and draft capital. The draft picks would be lower in the first round but they would have to sacrifice at least three years of first-rounders. Maxey is averaging 11.4 points per game this season and has looked good despite his lack of a jump shot early on.
This all depends on how the Sixers feel about their current lineup configuration. If Harris and Curry can be relied on as second options offensively, then the team is in a good position. If they want an upgrade at point guard, Lillard is the answer. He is one of the best scorers in the league and is averaging 6.7 assists per game.
