Detroit Pistons Receive: G Buddy Hield

Sacramento Kings Receive: G Derrick Rose, G Delon Wright, F Sekou Doumbouya

While they have had 14 consecutive losing seasons, the Sacramento Kings definitely have a group of young players that could lead them in the right direction not just this year, but for many years to come.

De’Aaron Fox is the face of the franchise in the backcourt and is in Sacramento for the long-haul, agreeing to a five-year, $163M extension this offseason, keeping him with the Kings through the 2025-26 season. Fox is the leader of a young core which also includes 2018 2nd overall pick Marvin Bagley III and rookie Tyrese Haliburton.

These three guys are the future of the organization and with Harrison Barnes being the experienced veteran on the team, they are definitely trending in the right direction, but need to bring in more established players that can contribute around their young core. This is why Derrick Rose, Delon Wright and Sekou Doumbouya could all be perfect fits in Sacramento.

For years now, Rose has been trying to build himself back into a reliable, high-level player after suffering some gruesome knee injuries over the course of his career. While it took some time, Minnesota and Detroit have given him a chance these last two seasons and he has proven that he can still contribute to any team in the NBA.

In the last two seasons with the Timberwolves and the Pistons, Derrick Rose has played in 101 games and has averaged 18.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and shot 48.6% from the floor. While he is not the NBA MVP-caliber player he once was, Derrick Rose can still contribute at a high-level and can make a difference for the Kings both on and off the court as a veteran leader.

Delon Wright was recently traded to the Detroit Pistons this offseason after playing in 73 games with the Mavericks last year. In those games, Wright averaged 6.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and shot 46.2% from the floor, 37% from three-point range. Over the course of his career, he has always been known to be a perimeter-oriented threat, which is what Sacramento needs the most.

Sekou Doumbouya was drafted 15th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and was not given much of an opportunity during his rookie season. He only played in 38 games last season, averaging just 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and shooting 39% from the floor. His length and athleticism though makes him a very intriguing young player in the league and someone who could be a great role player off the bench in Sacramento for years to come.

Buddy Hield has consistently been one of the Kings better scoring options since he joined theo organization in 2017, but with his frustrations setting in and the opportunity the Kings have to finally change their losing ways, it may be better to part ways with any negative energy on this roster for fresh faces who want to win now.

With that being said, let’s take a look at why this trade would be beneficial for both the Sacramento Kings and the Detroit Pistons.
