Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Sacramento Kings

The best thing the Sacramento Kings can do as an organization right now is continue looking for ways to add talent at every position on the court. This trade does exactly that for them and perhaps the best part of the trade is getting an experienced, veteran guard like Derrick Rose.

Although they drafted Tyrese Haliburton this offseason and have De’Aaron Fox as their franchise point guard, Derrick Rose could have a major impact on these guy’s careers moving forward and play his role off the bench perfectly. During the 2010-11 NBA season, Rose became the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award and knowing what it takes to play at the highest level in the league, he could really aid in the future development of both Fox and Haliburton.

Not to mention, Rose can still contribute meaningful minutes off the bench for the Sacramento Kings. As mentioned earlier, Derrick Rose has played in 101 games the last two seasons, averaging 18.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and shooting 48.6% from the floor.

With Derrick Rose, De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton and Cory Joseph all in the backcourt for the Kings, this team would have plenty of backcourt depth and plenty of options down the stretch in attempts to finally break through and make the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Delon Wright is nothing more than a “plug-and play” type of role player that can contribute on the perimeter, but Sekou Doumbouya could be a very valuable young player for the Kings. Sacramento seems to have faith in Marvin Bagley III moving forward and Richaun Holmes has come into his own over the years, but behind the two of these guys, there is no depth on this roster in the frontcourt.

Not only could Doumbouya develop into a very solid frontcourt player due to his length and athleticism, but he also possesses the ability to play on the wing behind Harrison Barnes. His natural scoring abilities are hard to find in a 6’8” forward and in time, Sekou Doumbouya could develop into a very solid all-around basketball player.

Buddy Hield has been one of Sacramento’s best offensive players over the years, but getting three guys who can all contribute in different ways could not just be beneficial in giving Sacramento depth, but beneficial in getting rid of all the negative energy surrounding this team. Hield has created a lot of unwanted drama in Sacramento and trading him away would not be a total loss for the Kings moving forward.
