Why This Trade Would Benefit The Sacramento Kings
Both Glenn Robinson III and Hassan Whiteside are coming off the bench for the Sacramento Kings and playing under 20 minutes per game. Sacramento has a plan to build around De’Aaron Fox at the point guard position. There are a few reasons to trade Whiteside and Robinson but the contracts stick out the most.
It’s important to note that Whiteside and Robinson III are both signed on one-year deals making around $2 million each. There is no real benefit to have them on the roster given how the Kings do not appear to be a playoff team.
Whiteside and Robinson III will be free agents after the season so if the Kings can package them in a deal, it would be worth it to get a return. Otherwise, they could just leave for nothing. Anything is better than nothing in this scenario.
This is not to say that Alex Caruso and Alfonzo McKinnie will help the Kings return to the postseason but it would get two veterans off the roster. This is a low-risk deal for both sides and it would have its benefits each way as the Lakers reconfigure its supporting cast around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
