Why The Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have a few untouchable players on the roster and it begins with Barrett and Mitchell Robinson. Of course, rookies Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley also will not be moved. As for everyone else, they can be traded at any time from now until the NBA trade deadline. This includes Randle.
If this level of play continues, Julius Randle might look for a lucrative extension. The Knicks have plenty of cap space but Randle is not the player to throw a ton of money in contract talks. This is not a good roster in New York. They have some pieces for the future, and surprisingly, five wins already but the entire makeup of the roster is not good.
This is year one of the true rebuild with Tom Thibodeau and Leon Rose. The past five years have been wasted with coaches such as Derek Fisher, Jeff Hornacek, and David Fizdale.
The decision regarding the future of Randle in New York will be made soon. By the time the trade deadline approaches, the Knicks will be back near the bottom of the conference and this is when some moves could be made.
