Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Golden State Warriors

Losing Klay Thompson for the second consecutive season has definitely had a major, negative impact on this entire organization and while it is hard to replicate what Thompson can do on the court, bringing in Paul George can keep this dynasty alive for years to come. Out of the core three of Stephen Curry, Thompson, and Green, Draymond is likely the one guy Golden State would ever trade and if they were able to get Paul George, the Golden State Warriors would take this trade immediately.

The cost of this trade would definitely hurt the Warriors moving forward in terms of having young talent to build a sustainable core for the future, but by trading away all of those draft picks and Wiseman for George can help Golden State raise more banners until Steph and Klay decide to retire.

As a result of the amount of young talent that the Warriors would have to trade away, they likely would not do this trade given the plans they have to build a young core around their current core of talent.

It is a really hard decision to make from Golden State’s perspective because they could potentially have a core of Steph, Klay, George and Wiggins now or roll the dice and potentially build a young core through the draft, much like they did in the first place.

The Warriors have always been an organization that finds success through developing players they draft, which is why they have won three championships since 2015. Sure, they added Kevin Durant to their team, but everyone else apart of their core were original draftees by Golden State.

This organization will likely continue to build their core through the draft, but at the end of the day, winning in this moment is all that matters and this opportunity to bring in Paul George is something that could be very hard to turn down. It would likely never happen, but if the Warriors had the opportunity to land Paul George, they may have to take it just to keep their current dynasty alive.
