Why The Trade Benefits The Knicks
Coby White was a rookie who improved over the course of the 2019-2020 season. He played 65 games and averaged 13.2 points per game while shooting 35.4% from three-point range. There are some things to work on, but at just 20 years old, the ceiling is high for White in the league.
The Knicks have not had a star point guard in what feels like forever. That is a big reason why they have not been able to rebuild over the last decade.
The NBA is a guard-driven league that relies heavily on the three-point shot. In the draft, the Knicks passed on Tyrese Haliburton and opted for Obi Toppin. That was the correct choice, but now it is time to go out and find a point guard. White would be an incredible option.
New York has a solid young core in Barrett, Toppin, and Mitchell Robinson. Tom Thibodeau is the new head coach and Leon Rose is in charge of basketball decisions. The franchise has finally made some good moves to improve the team and a point guard would be the next step.
If the team does end up pursuing a trade for Coby White, they would be very happy with the production he would offer them.
