Why the Trade Benefits the New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have a clear core with Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. New Orleans knows the direction they are heading as a team. While Ball fits into that plan, he might have overstayed his welcome — and it did not take very long.
Ball has yet to become completely comfortable in New Orleans. He still struggles with his shot and consistency regarding turnovers. As of now, Ball is the biggest trade piece that the Pelicans have.
They sent Jrue Holiday to the Milwaukee Bucks and will rely on Ingram and Williamson moving forward. They would acquire some draft capital in this deal that could be flipped in another trade.
The Pelicans have to be patient when rebuilding. They have some options and will weigh them over the years. As of now, the team should look for some even deals that would help them reshape their team around their talent.
