Why the Trade Benefits the New York Knicks
It has been quite some time since the New York Knicks have had a capable point guard at the top of their offense. Lonzo Ball was a huge prospect coming out of college but has not been able to take that next step. Tom Thibodeau is a coach who could try to get the most out of Ball on both ends.
Heading into the season, the Knicks are thin at point guard. Players like Elfrid Payton and Dennis Smith Jr. are not reliable options to run the offense. Immanuel Quickley has been a rookie sensation during the preseason but it is unlikely that he starts for the Knicks right away.
Ball has a chance to reinvent his game and take on an extended role for the Knicks. If nothing else, he is an attractive name that fans would want to watch.
The Knicks have plenty of work to do if they want to change the reputation and dynamic surrounding their franchise. Getting a reliable point guard should be step one of this process.
