Why the Trade Benefits the Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are a win-now team and have been for many years. During the postseason down in Orlando, they were taken out by a team with a dominant inside presence. This is something that the Celtics do not have and was expected to improve in the NBA offseason.
Boston is hoping that Thompson will provide that toughness down low and bring experience during the most important time of the season. Fournier would not help down low but he would improve their scoring on the perimeter.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are big-time offensive players but the Celtics are lacking that true three-point threat. This is where Fournier would come into play. He is someone who could create his own shot in the midrange game.
Fournier would be another offensive threat for Boston. This would make them even more difficult to guard because they would have five players out there who could make a play at any time.
