Why The Trade Benefits The Cavaliers
Kevin Love is still an effective player, but he does not fit into the long-term plan for the Cavaliers. Once LeBron James left for Los Angeles, the Cavaliers went into rebuilding mode. That meant getting younger at all positions and developing a young core in the lineup.
Cleveland already has a young back-court, which means they need to improve down low and add a versatile player on the perimeter. That is where Andrew Wiggins comes into play.
He is not the best shooter, but he is a slashing player who can get to the rim using his athleticism. Wiggins would serve as a nice complement to both Darius Garland and Collin Sexton on the perimeter.
If Cleveland makes this deal, it is likely that they will try to move Andre Drummond as well. Contract talks between the two sides have lightened up since the season was suspended back in March.
Moving on from Love would be the end of an era, but this trade would make moving him worth it.
