Spurs Once Again Finish As One Of Best Shooting Teams In NBA
If there is one thing we know about the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich, it is that they emphasize taking high-percentage shots. As a result, the Spurs finished fifth in the NBA last season in field-goal percentage and 4th in the league in three-point shooting percentage. This season will be no different as the Spurs will once again be one of the better shooting teams in the league.
In the last two seasons, the Spurs have finished in the top-five in both of these categories and a lot of it has to do with the addition of DeMar DeRozan back before the start of the 2018-19 season.
While it’s clear that DeMar DeRozan is not much of a three-point shooter, he is a very effective offensive player, shooting 50.3% from the floor over the past two years and drawing a lot of attention to himself, leaving his teammates open for high-percentage shots.
Last season, the Spurs had 8 players shoot above 45% from the floor, minimum of 15 games played, and they will once again be one of the better shooting teams since they did not shake up their roster much. Losing Bryn Forbes, but adding Devin Vassell basically evens each other out, and up and down this roster, the Spurs have guys who can play on the perimeter.
LaMarcus Aldridge is a high-level jump-shooter, Rudy Gay and Trye Lyles are more than capable of knocking down perimeter shots and even Luka Samanic is improving as a jump-shooter. Offensively, the Spurs do not really have any concerns as they should once again finish as one of the better shooting teams in the entire NBA.
