LaMelo Ball Wins 2020-21 NBA Rookie Of The Year
After being discussed as possibly being drafted No. 1 overall, LaMelo Ball was passed up by the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors, allowing the Hornets to draft him at 3rd overall. He enters the NBA as an elite level passer and great ball-handling skills that will make him one of the premier assist-men in the entire league.
LaMelo Ball is the younger brother of Pelicans point guard, Lonzo Ball, and while the two share many of the same qualities as a player, LaMelo is a much better overall playmaker and has the ability to be the face of the franchise for the Hornets for many years to come. He sees the court at an elite level and always seems to have an idea of what he is doing with the ball before a play develops.
With Devonte’ Graham, Gordon Hayward and P.J. Washington as great offensive players around him, LaMelo Ball will be able to pick up a lot of assists on drive-and-kick situations for open three-pointers. He will split time at point guard this season with Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham, but with the Hornets two-guard lineup they played with last year, LaMelo Ball will quickly solidify himself as a starter for Charlotte.
It is not crazy to believe that LaMelo Ball will average about 14 points per game and 7-8 assists per game, earning him the Rookie of the Year honors this season. The impact he will have on the Charlotte Hornets this year will make them a border-line playoff team and they may even force a play-in game as the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference.
The future success of this organization is in LaMelo Ball’s hands as he will be the focal point of the Charlotte Hornets young core moving forward.
