Charlotte Hornets Keep Miles Bridges Beyond Trade Deadline

In his first two years in the NBA, Miles Bridges has averaged 9.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and is shooting about 44.0% from the floor. While he is not as flashy and productive as other lottery picks from the 2018 NBA Draft, Bridges has been improving and given his athletic abilities, has the potential to be a really strong transition player.

There has been a solid amount of rumor circulating this offseason about the Charlotte Hornets potentially moving on from Miles Bridges after signing Gordon Hayward in the offseason, but if the Hornets were smart, they would hang on to Bridges and allow him to grow off-the-bench. Ever since he was drafted, there have been high expectations placed on Miles Bridges’ and while he never really rose to the occasion of being one of the stars of the Hornets, he can be a really solid and reliable role-player moving forward for this organization.

The biggest reason why the Hornets will wind up keeping Miles Bridges instead of trading him at this season’s trade deadline is for the sole reason that he is only 22-years old and has a lot of potential. Gordon Hayward was brought in as the veteran leader of one of the younger teams in the league and 5-6 years down the road, will not be a part of this team’s core.

Miles Bridges however is a part of this young core and will be an impact player for them down the road. The Hornets are in no position as a franchise to be able to call themselves legit threats in the Eastern Conference and as a result, need to hang on to as much young talent as they can to figure out their core pieces moving forward.

Maybe Miles Bridges ends up not fitting into the equation in a couple years for the Hornets, but the good thing for them is that he is still under contract next season if the Hornets pick up his $5.4M team option. They still have this year and next year to make a decision about his future with the organization, which is why they will hold onto him and wait to make a decision about trading Bridges.
