Why The trade Would Benefit The Thunder
The Thunder have made it clear that they are interested in getting younger. They traded away Chris Paul and let Danilo Gallinari walk in free agency. They could continue to build in offseason trades.
Oklahoma City would be getting a leader back in Blake Griffin, but this trade is about the first-round pick. The Thunder have built an enormous amount of draft capital in trades involving Paul George and Russell Westbrook.
It is possible that Oklahoma City could rebuild quickly whether making the picks or trading them away for a star. Griffin has two years left on his deal and would give the Thunder some energy on the court.
It is clear that the Thunder can compete if they have the right personnel. Adding Griffin and a pick would help in the short-term and also in the future.
