New York Knicks Receive: Andre Drummond ($28.75M 2020-21 Salary)

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: Julius Randle ($18.9M), Frank Ntilikina ($6.1M), DET 2021 2nd Round Pick (via NYK), CHA 2021 2nd Round Pick (via NYK)

This would be the best thing that could happen to the New York Knicks this offseason. If the Knicks were able to pull off a trade, moving Julius Randle and one of their many point guards, as well as get Andre Drummond to commit to the Knicks for the next few seasons, they could be in a position to land an All-Star type talent to bring New York back to the playoffs.

It would make perfect sense for the Knicks to deal Julius Randle for a couple of reasons. Not only would New York have two great rebounders in Mitchell Robinson and Andre Drummond that they could play together or as a one-two punch, but they recently selected Obi Toppin in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Knicks could play Toppin at the power forward position and after trading for a stretch big man in Omari Spellman, it would make sense for them to want to get rid of Julius Randle’s contract.

Trading away Frank Ntilikina also gives the Knicks plenty of options to play around with in their backcourt. Dennis Smith Jr, Elfrid Payton, Jacob Evans, Austin Rivers and rookie Immanuel Quickley are all guys who are expected to see time at point guard for the Knicks this season, so trading away Ntilikina, who never turned into who the Knicks hopes he would be, would not affect New York.

The best thing the New York Knicks can try and do this offseason/early on this season is to try and acquire a former All-Star like Andre Drummond. The veteran presence he can bring to this team, as well as step up and be one of their main contributors turns the Knicks into a legit 30-40 win team in 2020-21 and makes them a contender to land a big name free agent in 2021.

A lot of players would love to play in Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks, but nobody wants to lose. If the Knicks can prove they are ready to win and bring in Andre Drummond, this new Knicks’ management can revive this franchise and have something special for years to come. With three first-round picks in next year’s draft, as well as a great core to move forward with after trading for Drummond, the Knicks would be in a picture-perfect scenario for years to come.
