Why the Trade Works for the Boston Celtics
It’s highly unlikely that Jaylen Brown ever comes close to reaching a similar status of player as James Harden. Giving him up in order to land a perennial MVP candidate makes plenty of sense for that reason.
Sacrificing many years of NBA Draft selections is justifiable when considering the Celtics have been on the brink of making the NBA Finals numerous times but didn’t have enough firepower.
Being able to land PJ Tucker would help the Celtics to round out their supporting cast around Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, and Harden. This is especially the case if Gordon Hayward ends up departing via sign-and-trade this NBA offseason.
Preventing the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers from being able to add James Harden has value in itself. With the superstar scorer, it’s difficult to envision any team in the Eastern Conference stacking up with the Celtics and being better.
