Why the Trade Benefits the Oklahoma City Thunder
The incredible haul the Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off for Paul George in the form of draft compensation will set them up for an intriguing long-term rebuild. Gaining additional picks for Russell Westbrook and Jerami Grant in separate deals only added to the organization’s war chest.
With the No. 10 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Thunder would be able to add a prospect with real potential to pair with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. A backcourt partner like Tyrell Terry or a wing like Saddiq Bey or Aaron Nesmith stand out as options.
Following this trade, the Thunder would then have the chance to feature Gilgeous-Alexander in a very high-usage role. Oklahoma City would be able to see how prepared he is to run a team at a high-level in a loaded Western Conference and what he needs added in the supporting cast.
The Thunder would once again face an intriguing opportunity to feature a large role for players to then attempt to flip them in a trade if that’s the route they want to take. Rubio would be a prime candidate for this but Oubre Jr. could fit the bill in this regard, too.
