3. Agree to Contract Extension with Mitchell Robinson
There are few, if any, big splash options in free agency this season. Robinson has shown enough to earn an extension this offseason. There is no doubt that he is a big piece of the Knicks’ future moving forward.
Robinson was a 2nd round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and has proven to be an incredible athlete. In two years, he is shooting 72% from the floor and is coming off a 2019-20 season with averages of 9.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
While Robinson has yet to establish himself as a three-point shooter, he is a highly efficient play finisher near the basket and is a strong rebounder on both ends. Above all else, his presence as a rim protector is evident with his average of 2.2 blocks per game during his NBA career.
The Knicks do not have much to feel good about moving forward but Robinson is one of those pieces. This is a chance for the Knicks to extend him at a discounted rate before he puts together an even greater individual season— driving the price necessary to retain him.
